Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Job Description

Own the finance and accounting function of an approximately $60 million national business, supported by an established Controller, Director of FP&A, and six-person finance team.

TheHomeMag is a company of more than 80 full-time staff and a brand of more than 230 team members nationwide. We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer as our current senior finance leader prepares to retire at the end of January 2027. This planned transition provides an opportunity to join an established organization and assume responsibility for a capable team with established systems and processes.

Our goal is for the incoming CFO to begin in early January, allowing the month of January for overlap with our retiring finance leader and a thoughtful transition.

The Opportunity

This is a hands-on financial leadership role for someone who wants to understand how the business works, investigate the details behind the numbers, and turn financial insight into practical action.

You will own accounting operations, consolidated reporting, cash management, financial controls, budgeting, and forecasting across multiple operating locations. You will report to the President/COO and provide direct financial reporting and advice to the CEO/Founder. You will also build trusted relationships with our magazine operators and sales leaders, learning how advertiser acquisition, retention, pricing, production, distribution, and collections affect performance.

The team already uses AI modeling in its work, and we are looking for a CFO who will build on that adoption, continue to improve financial workflows, and help advance useful applications across the company.

What You Will Lead

  • Accounting and reporting: Own accurate, timely consolidated financial reporting, working closely with the Controller on the close, reconciliations, intercompany activity, controls, and outside accounting and tax relationships.
  • Cash and liquidity: Lead cash positioning, 13-week cash forecasting, working capital, banking relationships, and treasury controls.
  • Planning and analysis: Partner with the Director of FP&A and operating leaders on budgets, forecasts, location-level analysis, and meaningful performance measures.
  • Executive guidance: Give the CEO and President/COO a clear view of performance, cash, risks, and opportunities – with concise explanations and actionable recommendations.
  • Operating partnerships: Help market leaders understand results, investigate variances, and follow through on actions that improve performance.
  • People and systems: Develop the finance team, establish clear priorities, and improve the use of Sage Intacct, Pigment, AI, and related workflows.

What You Bring

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Typically, 12 or more years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including five or more years in senior financial leadership. Equivalent experience demonstrating the required capabilities will be considered.
  • Experience owning both accounting operations and FP&A, developing managers, and personally reviewing and resolving substantive financial issues.
  • Demonstrated experience with multi-location or multi-entity consolidation, intercompany activity, GAAP, financial controls, and timely reporting.
  • Substantial experience managing cash flow, liquidity, working capital, banking relationships, and cash forecasting.
  • A record of translating financial analysis into useful guidance for executives and operating leaders.
  • Practical experience using AI in financial analysis, modeling, or workflows, including validating outputs, and helping others adopt it.
  • Strong financial systems and analytical skills, with the ability to develop working proficiency in Sage Intacct and Pigment.
  • The ability to work full-time, on-site in Cape Coral, Florida.

An active CPA license is preferred. CMA certification or an MBA with a finance or accounting concentration is also relevant. Experience in privately held, owner-led companies, media, advertising, franchise, or multi-location service businesses is especially valuable.

How you Lead

You ask thoughtful questions, understand the operating details, and stay involved through resolution. You combine financial discipline with practical judgment and communicate clearly with people whose expertise may be outside finance. You take ownership of accurate reporting and timely decisions, develop the people around you, and see finance as a resource that helps the business perform better.
