May Mini-Makeovers: Quick and Easy Room Organizing Ideas

Spring is the perfect time of year to tackle home organization. While it may seem like an overwhelming job, you can simplify it by doing one room at a time.

The living room

The living room is a place in the home where family can gather together and relax. This is hard to do when you’re surrounded by clutter. Get all that stuff under control by adding a few useful pieces to the space. A blanket ladder placed in the corner is the perfect spot for all of those throws that are scattered about. Utilize a covered storage ottoman for everything from video game equipment to DVDs. A basket can keep remotes in one spot, and a beautiful bookshelf is ideal for other miscellaneous items.

The kitchen

The kitchen is a workspace and should be treated as such. This means it has to be functional. Clear up counter space by using a sink caddy for sponges, brushes, and dish soaps. Plastic bag dispensers and paper towel holders hung under the cabinets further free up precious countertops. Slim storage carts can hold spices and other small items. These slide nicely between the counter and the fridge. Arrange silverware in a drawer organizer and put the most frequently used utensils in a crock by the range. Don't forget inside the refrigerator. Clear plastic bins are perfect for cold food items.

The children’s bedrooms

Kids' bedrooms serve double duty as playrooms. This means you have to stay organized if you want them to have a peaceful area to fall asleep in. Storage shelves with several separate bins are ideal for small toys. Hammocks hung across a corner of the room are wonderful for corralling stuffed animals. Even the traditional toy box can be useful. When choosing storage solutions for children, make sure these items are safe and easy for little ones to use. This allows them to help clean up at the end of the day.

Your home office

If you work from home, you know how easy it is to become disorganized. Separating your personal life from your workspace is difficult. Start organizing by designating one specific area as your office. Find yourself a desk with drawers. These drawers are perfect for everything, from pencils to clipboards. Use small containers on top of the desk for small clutter like paperclips and stylus pens. Stackable trays are ideal for keeping completed tasks separate from your unfinished work. Most importantly, find an area in another part of the house for personal items like your household bills and receipts.

By tackling your organization one room at a time, you won't become overwhelmed. In the end, you’ll have a functional, organized, and comfortable home. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for more organization tips.
