Discover This Season's Trending Paint Colors for Every Room

Spartanburg homeowners know that flat eggshell white walls in every single room of the house can be a little monotonous. On one hand, their sheer blankness can be a backdrop for artwork and furnishings. On the other hand, they can overwhelm if you don’t know what to place on or against them. One relatively inexpensive way to bring life to boring walls is to paint them. Here are some trending colors for different rooms of your home.

Best colors for the living room

Colors for the living room depend both on your personal preference and how the room is configured. According to the home renovation and remodeling experts at Modern Restoration, darker colors make a room that’s a bit too large look smaller and cozier, while lighter colors tend to make a small room look larger. To visually bring a too-large living room closer to human scale, consider colors such as darker shades of blue, plum, gray, or brown. Don’t even be afraid to paint the room predominantly black, for it can lend a room a moody type of intimacy.

If you want the room to look a little larger, judiciously paint some of its areas with citrusy shades such as orange, lime green, lemon yellow.

What to use in the kitchen

Kitchen yellow may have gone out of style a long time ago, but you can use other shades of yellow, again judiciously, in your kitchen. Consider lemon yellow, bold primary yellow, and cream yellow. Neutrals, such as shades of brown, tan, and soft gray, are also trending. Teal and muddy green are popular, too, especially for cabinetry.

Trending colors for the bathroom

Currently popular colors for the bathroom tend toward soft pastel blues and greens, which put people in mind of bodies of water. Some homeowners even have seashells cemented into bathroom walls to represent the ocean. Other trending colors are shades of pink or lavender. Whatever the color, interior designers look for shades that are especially soothing and relaxing in a bathroom.

Popular shades for bedrooms

Since the bedroom is all about relaxing, trendy colors for this space are soothing shades of pink, blue, and green. Still, some people choose neutrals for their bedrooms, including dark ones. Room elements painted a lighter shade, such as baseboards, crown moldings, and wainscoting keep deep colors from making a room look too gloomy.

Don’t forget the celling

Consider painting the ceiling as well as the walls. A ceiling that’s a lighter shade than the walls pulls the eyes upward and makes the room look taller than it is. On the other hand, a lofty ceiling that’s painted a darker shade makes the room cozier. One thing to note is that ceiling paint is different from wall paint. It is thicker, so it doesn’t constantly drip to the floor.
