6 Reasons Your Garage Door Opener Won't Work
A remote garage door opener makes your life a little easier. Once set up, you can keep it in your vehicle and open the door when you get home. The right remote will keep your garage safe and secure, too. You can even choose models that let you use different remotes in each car. When your garage door opener stops working, it usually happens for one of six reasons.
1. Poor alignment
Garage door openers today work with photo eyes that sit on each side of the door. The eyes work together to detect the presence of anything below the door. They keep the door from closing on vehicles and other objects as well as people. If the doors are not correctly aligned, the photo eyes cannot connect and may detect things that aren't there.
2. Dead battery
One of the most basic reasons your door won't open is that the battery is dead. Also called a transmitter, the remote runs on either one or two batteries that provide it with power. When the batteries die, the remote will not work. You can try using a different opener to see if that fixes the problem before you call My Gorilla Garage or Queen City Garage Solutions for help.
3. No signal
If you recently replaced the battery in the transmitter, check out the signal between it and the door. The door may not open because the transmitter remote lost its signal with the door. This can happen when you change the battery, the antenna is damaged, or heavy objects are in front of the door's sensor.
4. Damaged track
When you buy a new garage door to make your home safer, the installer can use the existing tracks around the entrance or use new ones. The tracks help the door smoothly open and close. Any bends or other damage to the track can prevent the door from opening, even if your opener still works.
5. Poor range
Garage door openers have a range that tells you how far away from the sensor they can work. If you're too far away, you can press the open button as much as you want without seeing the door open. It's possible to adjust the range. Check your owner's manual for the steps, or contact a local installer for help.
6. Broken springs
The springs on your garage door are dangerous and require professional installation. They help the door open and close. When one or both springs are broken, the door will not open. Work with a Cincinnati installer and let them check the springs.
Local garage door installers can check every part of your door and determine why your opener doesn't work. They can also install a new door or set up a new opener for you. Discover even more about garage door openers and organize yours with TheHomeMag. Check us out on Instagram and Facebook.
