Transforming Your Bathroom Without Breaking the Bank

An elegant, understated bathroom doesn't mean you have to rip everything out and install marble. It's possible to increase the elegance in a space with more economical options. Read on to learn more about some cost-effective bathroom upgrades to consider.

Review your shower

If your shower is looking aged, it may be time to do some scrubbing. Grout that is discolored can be improved with a simple combination of water and vinegar to remove hard water residue. Should you find that your grout is breaking down, it could be necessary to call in a company like Grout Doctor to replace and reseal your grout.

For those with glass shower doors, vinegar can be used to remove water spots. Consider putting paper towels against your glass door and spritzing it with vinegar from a spray bottle until it clings to the glass. Let this sit for 15 minutes and wipe it away. Every time you shower, take the time to squeegee the door. Use the vinegar and paper towel process each time you clean the bathroom to work on stubborn hard water stains.

Change the color

Keep the color scheme in your bathroom as simple as possible. If you can, use a neutral color for both tile and paint. Choose another classic color for your accent and stop there.

This color process also extends to your storage. If your neutral is white or cream pair it with a deep blue, such as navy or cadet blue. Invest in a couple of cans of spray paint in this blue and spray your storage baskets in this new color. Take one of your "new" baskets to your favorite linen store and treat yourself to fluffy towels that match.

Consider updating the windows

If you've been considering a change in windows in your home, call a company like The Window Depot and have a conversation about a hopper window configuration above your bathtub.

Hopper windows tilt open. If the window above your bathtub is a traditional double-hung window, you may long to open it for fresh air but struggle to maintain a sense of privacy. In your bathroom, a hopper window can be put at the top of your window and be paired with a frosted window or glass bricks to provide you with privacy in the bath or shower.

Reconfigure bathroom storage

No matter how big your bathroom is, having a bunch of stuff on the counter is not an elegant option. It may be time to take inventory of what you have stored in the space to make sure all of these items need to live in the bathroom.

If your makeup has to sit on the counter because your storage shelves are full of extra towels, put the extra towels in the linen cabinet. Get out your spray paint and go find a basket with a lid or one that's just tall enough to fit on the shelf. Paint the basket and line it with white cardboard. Load it with the makeup from your counter and put it on the shelf. When you need to get ready for the day, you can pull the basket down, use what you need and put it right back.

Elegance and simplicity go hand in hand. Small changes can suit your need for an elegant bathroom without breaking your budget. Look for more simple ways to add elegance to your home on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
