Top Color Schemes For Your Half Bathroom

Homeowners in the Greenville/Spartanburg area know that the half bath is one of the first rooms a guest might visit in their house. This room, also called the powder room, is where your guests freshen up after they’ve arrived and where they may visit once or twice more before they go home. Because of this, it’s important that this usually small but vitally important space make an impression. A lot of this impression comes from the half bath’s color scheme.

What’s the mood you want to evoke in your half bath?

The color of a room should reflect what the room is for. The purpose of a half bath is admittedly utilitarian. As it’s usually on the first floor near the front door, you can even think of the half bath as the gateway or introduction to the rest of the house. You’ll want your guests to feel safe and comfortable while they’re using the half bath, and its color scheme can give them a taste of the atmosphere of the rest of the house. Here are some types of color schemes to consider for the half bath.

Consider the monochromatic color scheme

This color scheme uses shades of one color. This is an excellent choice for a small space like a half bath. Interior decorators suggest a monochromatic color scheme made up of a pure color, a shade of the color, and a tint of the color. For example, if your half bath is blue, you may use the primary color blue as part of the wall and floor tiles, a tint like angel blue for the paint color of the walls and ceiling, a milky blue for the sink and toilet bowl and a shade like royal blue for window curtains and area rug. By the way, tints are made when white is added to the primary color, and shades are made from the addition of black or gray.

Use an analogous color scheme

If you look at a color wheel, analogous colors are those that are next to each other. For warm colors, consider orange, red-orange and red. Cooler colors are blue-violet, blue, blue-green and all of the tints and shades in between. Experts such as the ones at the Bath Depot know that colors also influence the mood of your guests. The warmer colors bring joy and enthusiasm while the cooler ones bring a sense of calm.

Think of complementary colors for your half bath

Complementary colors are directly opposite each other on the color wheel. These would be combinations such as yellow and blue-violet, green and red or yellow-green and red-violet. The warmth and coolness of the colors balance each other while still keeping the space vibrant. One trick is to have one color predominate and use tints and shades of other colors around it.
