The Importance of Ceiling Color

Many people don’t think too much about the color of their ceiling. It wouldn’t be surprising that in most Greenville homes it’s probably a shade of white, and in a percentage of those homes it has a popcorn texture. But there’s no reason why you can’t paint your ceiling a color other than white, or even wallpaper it. Here are some reasons why.

Color can make the room seem larger than it is

If you have a room that you believe is too small, painting its ceiling is a way to make it seem bigger than it is. The go-to color is a bright shade of white, but the secret, as the professionals at Eco Painting can tell you, is that bright white isn’t the brightest color. That would be a brilliant shade of pale yellow. If white or yellow doesn’t appeal to you, a light shade of pink, blue or gray can also make the ceiling seem higher and wider than it is.

Color can also make a room seem smaller

Color can also make a room that is too large seem smaller and a bit more human-sized. While light and bright colors cause the perception of height, colors that are dark and warm draw everything in and make the room seem cozier. Wallpaper with darker shades in an attractive pattern can also have the same effect.

Ceiling color enhances a room whose walls are covered up

The majority of kitchen walls are covered by cabinets, backsplashes and appliances. This leaves the floors and ceilings to add to the room’s aesthetics. Since most people don’t expect your ceiling to be interesting, a ceiling painted with bold colors or enhanced with wallpaper can be a delightful surprise. Just be certain that it can hold up under a kitchen’s heat and humidity.

A colorful ceiling hides flaws

Attic ceilings are known for having the steep pitch of a roof. Ceilings in other rooms can also have flaws or complicated design elements that are noticeable. Painting or wallpapering the ceiling can cover up the flaws or make them stand out less.

Color in the ceiling brings out embellishments

A painted ceiling can highlight embellishments such as crown molding, coffers or a central embossed design in the ceiling. If you have cove lighting, you can use it to bring out both architectural details and the ceiling’s color.

Paint or wallpaper the ceiling because you want to

You don’t really need a reason to paint or wallpaper your ceiling. It can simply be an expression of your creativity or sense of fun. If you want your room to have a circus or jungle motif, there’s really no reason not to use the pattern all over. However, it’s best to hire a professional to do the job for you.
