Statement Making Front Doors

Sometimes, all it takes to ramp up the curb appeal of your South Nashville home is improving the look of your front door. Unless you have a home whose façade is made mostly of glass, the front door is the first thing a passerby notices. This passerby might one day be in the market for a new house when you are ready to sell. A door that really pops can make all the difference between selling your home at a good price and not.

Swap out the old door for a new one

An old door that came with an old house can be charming if it’s maintained, but some old doors just look worn-out. Don’t be afraid to employ a company such as Classic Doors to help you swap it out for a new one. Don’t be afraid to choose a new door that’s nothing like the old one. Some people install a Dutch door in the front, a bold move since Dutch doors are associated with a back door that opens to the garden. If your old door didn’t have fan lights or sidelights, consider one that does.

Paint the door

If your front door is uninspiring, one of the least expensive things to up its curb appeal is to paint it. But don’t paint it any old color. Experiment with bold hues such as fire engine red, ultramarine blue, banana yellow or grass green. Just make sure the color doesn’t clash with the rest of the façade. Since most facades are pretty neutral, it shouldn’t.

Add house numbers

Like the doors themselves, house numbers can be boring. To give their front door some curb appeal, some homeowners have placed huge numbers beside the door. These numbers are huge as in half the height of the door itself. They can’t help but be seen from the street, and they often come in flashy, modern fonts such as Herculaneum. Smaller house numbers are sometimes paired with planters or plaques that set them off. Still, they should be big enough to be seen from the sidewalk.

Add and subtract plants

If there are bushes or shrubs that block the view of your door, you may want to cut them back. On the other hand, plants that grow well in pretty containers can be just the thing to arrange around the sides of the door. You can even change them from one season to the next.

Paint the steps

If there’s nothing really wrong with the door but it could still use some pizzazz, paint the front steps a bright, complementing color. Make sure you choose the right outdoor paint for materials such as masonry or wood. As an extra, paint a tromp l’oeil runner up the steps.

These are only a few ways to enhance your door’s curb appeal and thus the curb appeal of your house. For more information on making your door an irresistible draw, go to TheHomeMag on Facebook and Instagram.
