Deck the Windows: Festive Ideas to Prepare for the December Celebrations

Spend some time this December sprucing up your windows for the holiday season. The following are a few ideas to inspire you.

Traditional wreaths

Wreaths have been a part of the holiday season for many years. When decorating your home this December, don't just place one on the front door. Wreaths can be a beautiful addition to your windows. You can use just one large wreath in the center of the window or hang several small ones at different heights. You can further embellish your wreaths by adding bows or lights.

Candles

While we certainly don't recommend placing a real flame in your window, retailers today offer a variety of faux candles with realistic-looking flames. Candles in the window have long been a symbol of welcome. A single candle in a black, gold, or silver holder placed in the center of the windowsill is elegant. You could also use several matching candles in an eclectic collection of candleholders for larger windows.

Garland

Garland is another traditional holiday decoration that can be used to dress up your windows. They can be draped over the top of the window or used to surround it. A wonderful perk to using garland is that it comes in various colors and styles, both real and artificial. You can use green garlands for a country look or choose a pure white one for a more contemporary feel. With or without lights, they are the perfect holiday accessory for your home.

Snowflakes

Whether you live in a warm climate or where snowstorms are a normal part of the holiday season, adding faux snowflakes to your windows creates the perfect winter wonderland. You can cut your snowflakes from paper or purchase snowflake-shaped ornaments from local retail stores. Hang them at different heights from the top of the window with a fishing line.

Window boxes

Window boxes often look drab during the winter months. By adding greenery, those window boxes become a beautiful way to make your windows look amazing for the holidays. Fill each box with pine, holly, and boxwood branches. This creates a nice base to which you can add pinecones, berries, or shatterproof ornaments. Bows and lights are the perfect finishing touch.

Strings of lights

Use lights to brighten your windows once the sun goes down. One single strand can be wrapped around the edge of the window, or you can hang icicle lights across just the top. You can also use net lights to create a curtain of illumination.

Any of these simple touches will surely bring a festive feel to your home’s windows. For more inspiring holiday decor ideas, follow us on Facebook or Instagram.
